Functional Fitness

This is about working out for real-life situations.   Functional fitness focuses on working on your physical fitness in a way that efficiently prepares you for real-life situations.  A great example is, while the traditional bench press is great, and much time is spent by Americans everyday around this exercise, how much benefit do you actually get out of it?  One could argue that your time might be better served doing push-up and pull-ups- you might actually need to lift yourself over a wall or some obstacles.  Doing exercises with your own weight is not only easy (with respect to the fact you need no equipment) but it is also very efficient and effective.  Do these types of exercises in volume and you start to develop a cardio workout.

MMA Fitness incorporates this kind of approach to much of its workouts.  We all have experience with them one way or another, but are you pushing yourself?  Are you measuring, not your results, but your effort against other like-minded individuals.  MMA fitness and MMA gyms provide a support system of these kind of people.  You might think it is a bunch overly aggressive street thugs, but that couldn't be further from the truth.  Much of the people that enjoy and attend MMA gyms are there because they are concerned with their health and longevity, and they know that working out and training in mixed martial arts is extremely fun.  There is always a good attitude and a positive atmosphere.  If you haven't tried it, you might want to take a chance, you won't regret it.

They offer a free class at www.attsavage.com/.  Check it out.
